"Football" will continue to struggle in popularity in Australia when random referee decisions cost us matches and players.
In the last World Cup we had Italy on the ropes till an obvious dive gave them a penalty shot.
In the match against Germany our main striker was red carded for a mild tackle that may have been worth yellow at the most.
Last night our replacement striker gets red carded for an unavoidable hand ball. His arm is next to his body and he has his eyes closed as the ball rockets into his upper arm.
I have seen at least five deliberate handballs in previous matches this week without a red card being given.
So why give one when the player has done all he can to avoid it?
So he is off and Ghana equalise with the penalty.
About five minutes later one of our players is brought down from a behind tackle.
FIFA have stated that such tackles should be automatically red carded.
On replay it is far far worse than the one our striker was red carded for in the German match.
Yet he gets a yellow and allows them to maintain the one man advantage.
I think they need to go to replay and allow another umpire to rule on the penalty.
Until that happens there are many people who will give up on the sport as there is a total lack of consistency.
