I have read and reread this and still dont know what relation Samuel is to William. Samuel's father is John Birch on the 1901 census where he is 72. I wonder if William had a child called Sameul in 1862 when he was married to Catherine but he is not on the 1871 census. Wonder if he is living with another member of the family then?

The only Samuel Birch I can see born 1862, is the one with father John.

Samuel could even be a cousin. A copy of the will or the death certificate for William might help. William has a pub and is a Car Dealer. Samuel is a Corn Merchant. There is a marriage for William Birch to Hannah Mansell in 1880 in Tipton. They may even have been in business together. It seems strange that William leaves his money to Samuel Birch and to Frank Dawes, Solicitor, it doesn't state that Samuel or Frank are executors but that he leaves them his money.

I really need to see this on a tree now, but I do think a copy of the will or Williams's death certificate would help.

Yes I cannot understand why he leaves his money to him unless he is a first born son and the dates of birth for Samuel are wrong.
