Ok, I got one the other day for £10, I already had the form downloaded, but can't remember where I got it from. Ancestry charge around £25 or something.

Marchesgirl wrote:Nellie Toye's birth in 1886 was registered in the Kingswinford sub district of Stourbridge. Records are held at Dudley Register Office; if you wanted to order the certificate from them, the reference is: KIN/132/99. The death is also registered in Kingswinford sub district, reference KIN/072/106.
If the family were living at Quinton, I would have expected the birth to be registered in Halesowen sub district. However, in my experience, sometimes (particularly for first children) women went back to their mother's house to give birth - I would imagine to benefit from mother's experience and support, so I don't think you can necessarily rule it out.
Where would I order it from?

That is quite possible yes. Was it only in 1911 census that they asked how many children they had had?

Don't buy your Certs from Ancestry Nick, they are a rip off, order them on line from the General Register Office using the Index Nos from Free BMD. They are I Believe abt nine pounds from there.
Linell.

Only the 1911 census gives how long married.

Ok, 1937 death ordered.
Exciting stuff. I thought I was done, and then a trip to the BCC meetup and I get the bug again.

Nellie certificates ordered too. Although that is more for my own curiosity.

That 1933 one looks very interesting. Ellen Toy gets probate? But according to my records she died in 1921. I actually have her death certificate on order so will know more then.

The Ellen Toy mentioned in that probate record was a spinster.

So what does that mean? She was never married? Well isn't one of the Edwin's we discovered earlier living with an Ellen Toy as well as others, so it could be a daughter? Bit weird to have a daughter with another woman and call it the same name as the wife you used to beat.
