more info.....that selena death checks out
so I think this is his first marriage
she dies
and he remarries but is down as bach on 2nd marriage instead of widow.....

Jan,

Now you have validated Samual's first marriage to Selena :grin: he looks even more the most likely candidate to be the one that married Elizabeth (Betsy) Gaze, notwithstanding the batchelor/widower inconsistency. His father is identified twice on marriage records as William - nailer deceased!

I agree with your conclusion that he cannot be a brother to Benjamin (father Samual Smith) and if they are related perhaps it is as cousins, with the fathers (William and Samuel) being the brothers.

I will look at Samuel/Elizabeth's family again to see if I can find furthr clues.
