I started taking thyroxine about 5 years ago. the doctor said I would be dancing and running around in about 8 weeks, no way, I can tick the box on most of these,

What are the symptoms of hypothyroidism?

Many symptoms can be caused by a low level of thyroxine. Basically, many body functions slow down. Not all symptoms develop in all cases.

* Symptoms that commonly occur include: tiredness, weight gain, constipation, aches, feeling cold, dry skin, lifeless hair, fluid retention, mental slowing, and depression.
* Less common symptoms include: a hoarse voice, irregular or heavy menstrual periods in women, infertility, loss of sex drive, carpal tunnel syndrome (which causes pains and numbness in the hand), and memory loss or confusion in the elderly.

and I am only 61.

MrsSRD was diagnosed as having an underactive thyroid, she takes thyroxin and it has made a lot of difference. If one is still suffering symptoms one should go back to ones GP and ask for further investigation.

I had an operation when I was 20 (I'm 74 now)..for an over-active
thyroid...They just chopped a lump off!!!(after various tests)..never
had any trouble or taken tablets since..until a couple of months ago, when
after an annual blood test, Doc. prescribed 'levothyroxine sodium 50mg'
said it now could be under-active.....(wonder if they have still got the bit, and
it could be stuck back on)???? :?

Sorry, Jimmy.
My husband and daughter both have underactive thyroids and they have regular blood tests so I hope you do too? At first they up the dose until your levels test correct, then you should be monitored afterwards.
When my daughter was diagnosed it was stressed that she had to take the tablets at the same time everyday, especially in relation to food times, cos otherwise the levels can get thrown out. No one told my husband that at all.

I take 1 x 100mg, and 1 x 50mg, (Levothyroxine), every day before food, about 5. 30am, I have to go for a blood test in the next few weeks. I have been on the same dosage for about the last 4-5 years.

1 day to go!
Goin' stir-crazy here. (Where does that expression come from? I've heard it 'n used it for yonks, but never thought about its origin.)

At least it's cold and miserable outside. Think I'll stay in bed all day. Tomorrow I have to wash all my bedclothes, clothes I've been wearing, towels - 3 TIMES! Feeling tired already - I'm definitely staying in bed!
