Jo, you have great taste in clothes. Trust your own judgement and just buy something that you really like. Gardener's suggestions about trying it for comfort sound very sensible - Must remember them myself!

Oct 16th -- I am lucky in that my son and his fiancee are doing all the organising and I have just been asked to turn up and enjoy myself but that seems to be easier said than done -- what to wear? where to sleep? (it is about an hour's drive away -- is it close enough to drive back after? will I be too tired?? what about the night before? when will my other two children manage to get back from Uni? and that is just as mother of the groom -- I don't envy you the mother of the bride -- so much more to do!!

When my daughter got married I was told as the mother of the Bride I should wear Blue and will hold centre of stage with Bride if mother of the Groom wear Grey and shut up!!
Fortunately daughter got married in Cyprus nice relaxed wedding and as there were only 23 family and friends it was a close party,

I think a far more important question is "will I be too drunk?"

As for the actual problem of what to wear, I have nothing to add to the topic. I'm male, and therefore have no fashion sense whatsoever...

I'm going to a wedding tomorrow, and I have had my suit, shirt, tie, cufflinks and tie pin all chosen for me. I'd understand if I was a groomsman or something, but I'm just a guest.

Haha, just saw that the cufflinks I had chosen for me are damaged. I get to choose my own cufflinks and tie clip

Hubby and son got suits today. And yes Peter and Brickwalls I picked!
Sort of grey colour, white with a satin stripe shirt, and a Purple like tie. Cuff links for hubby, son has his.

Took the dresses back today.
Cant get my money back, just a credit note
So have to think... and see what I can get from there

arnt you are intitle to your money back you have 14 days to change your mind ?

I dont think they have to give you your money back if you have just changed your mind Jo. If you still have your receipt, some shops do but not all, hence a credit note

You're correct.

If you simply change your mind, you have no rights whatsoever.

Unfortunately, if Jo had bought the clothes online, she would be able to return them for a full refund under D.S.R.

I'm afraid I did my mum out of being Mother of the Bride (well she's had the honour for my sister twice!). We got married in secret, so they only found out afterwards.
Not that she minded too much (glad not to be involved in loads of planning I think) - my cousin's getting married next spring, so all the fun of finding an outfit with none of the worries!

Our eldest son got married 5 years ago, it was exciting, tiring, stressful, but when the day arrived it was wonderful. As daft as it sounds I looked on ebay for ideas. My daughter-in-law actually had her dress made to measure from USA from ebay and less that £100, she looked stunning.

Just a thought!

My friend is going to take me back a week on Saturday see if theres some new stock.
Did try on some but the ones I liked were much more expensive
I also need to ask how long the credit note lasts for
