I get called Jo, unless I am in trouble, then its Joanne!

My Mum and Dad were called by their middle name and they tried calling me mine for a short while

When I was little if I ever did anything wrong my Grandad used to say Joanne Louise and I knew he was cross!
My Lot,
Stephen = Steve
Stuart = Stu
Leanne = Lea
Hannah = Han or Simmy
So we all do!
Jo

dianel wrote:I like having my name shortened to 'Di'. When I am in trouble my husband and my mum both address me as DiANe.
My wife insists on being called DIANNE..if I call her Di. She thinks I'm putting a curse on her!!!!
Incidently, when I was young (well before 'Only Fools & Horses) was always referred to as DEL. (Derek),

When I was at school many moons ago, my name was consistently shortened. I didn't like it but if you let others know they do it all the more - it drove my mother absolutely spare.
When I decided to return to work when the children were older - I decided I would be called Kate - a short name and impossible to muck about with.
So I have been Kate much longer than I was ------, in fact if anyone refers to me by my original name now - I ignore them!!!

When i was at school i was called Willy and a couple of years ago i was in a pub just off Powke Lane Blackheath right opposite the old Lenches place and an old mate from way back came in and he still referred to me as Willy or Will!!
A lot of us at school had nicknames and we're never referred to by their real names.

My Dad was Godfrey (after a film star?) but when he started down the pit his overseer said it was no name for a man and that he would call him Geof which kind of stuck as a work name and many people never knew his name. On teh otherhand, when he met my Mum he told his mother that her name was Veronica (her middle name) because he thought it more romantic than Zoe! Imagine being called Zoe Veronica at school

Apparently her cousin borrowed a baby-names book and began at the back, reading all the names. Come the V section Nan said "That's it! Zoe Veronica".

My name can't be shortened because it's only one syllable. It really annoys me when I hear our daughter being called Zo instead of Zoe, but she doesn't mind at all.

It doesnt bother me to be fair most people call me Gaz instead of Gary, or even with old school mates I am known by my surname (dont ask!!! everyone was known by there surname where I went to school)
