I was wondering whether Cecilia was pre marriage? possible 1890 quoted in previous post and then as you said fostered out?/ Barnados? but then Cecilia was accepted before she was married! - The romantic in me to want a happy ending!

Question

On a birth certificate if the mother is married doesn't she have to show her maiden name also. On Cecilias birth certificate is just states mother as Ann Marie Lawrence, Brush maker.

terry why dont you try to get electrol roll info on the address for 1887 Plus and minus a couple of years it should show all male adults allowed to vote ?

FYI I phoned them and they do not keep them going back this far. They told me to contact the British library. This I have done and they may have the information and I have just sent them an email and they will check. If you ever need to contact the electoral role the email address is social-sciences@bl.uk.

On Ancestry.co.uk under London, England, Births & Baptisms 1813-1906, Tower Hamlets, Saint Gabriel, Chrisph Street there is a baptism on 29th September 1888 of a Celia Lawrence, Parents: where the father's name should be there is a hyphen then under the hyphen Annie Maria Lawrence; Abode: 1 Broomfield Street; Quality, Trade or Profession: hyphen. On the left hand side of the date there is a P.

If you look at the 1881 census which rockyfowler found, I think this could be your Annie aged 14, possible mother of Cecelia.

In my own tree, I have an illegitimate boy (where just his mother's name is on his birth certificate, no Mary Bloggs formerly Smith) and later the mother marries, but on the boy's marriage certificate it looks very much as though the father's name he gives is in fact his uncle, a brother to his mother.

Thanks for the info. The only problem I see with this is that Cecilia was 3 at the time of the 1881 census which would have made her mother 11.
Any idea what the P could be to the left hand side of the date?
