Ok the marriage is on for a look up
we can then connect up Elizabeth to the Johnsons if father is Henry
and see Who Williams father is

that looks like Wm in 1881

I will leave entering this on bcc until that marriage is looked up
by then Doug may have joined and he can add all this

Kdw has done this look up Doug

the father for William Dimmock that married Elizabeth Johnson is a William Dimmock miner

http://bcconnections.tribalpages.com/tr ... d=58834798

now we do have one on BCC....is it this one?

http://bcconnections.tribalpages.com/tr ... =926427993

can we find either of them on census?

Hi

Thanks for the lookup.

I suspect that my William is the son of William, born circa 1831 in Dudley & Betsy or Betty [nee Fudge] born circa 1831 in Dudley - I'm basing this on the fact that they had another son Sampson or Samson Dimmock born circa 1854 who shows on the 1881 census as being born in Cradley Heath.

My William's father William I believe to be the son of the William born in 1810 to Joseph & Mary [nee Stephens].

The 1810 William may be the one who married Diana Yardley 21/12/1828 at Kingswinford [Extracted marriage record M053731].

Furthermore I believe the William born 1831 is living, along with his siblings, at the home of his grandfather Samuel Yardley.

There is a burial record for a William & Diana Dimmock at St Nicholas Hetton Le Hole Durham on 03 Sep 1832.

Boy am I confused with all these Williams!

Does it make sense to you - if so I can put it on BCC.

Doug

As a postscript to my previous post there is an extracted birth or christening record on the IGI for a William Dimmock [son of William & Diana] .

The details are as follow:

20 MAR 1831 Wesleyan Chapel, Dudley, Worcester, England

I have just changed that dob for Wm father to abt 1831
Ok I think that unless we are positive that that Wm is your Wms father and mother we have to enter in notes only.

Is there no birth regis for him?
b 1856 there must be something

So unless more evidence add it in notes Doug

you know that that Wm that married Eliz johnson has father Wm a miner
you could armed with that try for a birth cert at the regis offices
where is he born do we know?
do we have him on 1911 does it say his place of birth on there
or did the death cert say anything more?

Hi

As I've mentioned before there's 2 possible Williams:

one, William, born 1856 Dudley [bmd shows registered Jan-Mar 1856]; in the 1861 & 1871 he's shown as born in Dudley;

the other, William Henry, born 1855 Stourbridge [bmd shows registered Sep-Dec 1855]; in 1861 & 1871 he's shown as born in Kingswinford;

My post "Where's William" covers the issue of 1881 where only 1 of these Williams appear - a glass blower born 1857 in "Berley Hill".

Then my William in 1891 shows his place of birth as Cradley; in 1901 Dudley Wood; in 1911 Burslem.

My William's eldest daughter is shown as Elizabeth on the 1891 census but as Betsy on the 1901 census - she was registered as Betsey [freebmd has the surname Dimmick].

I might have to go through the 1881 census with a fine tooth comb to solve this one.

One other piece that may solve the puzzle is that a Sarah Ann Dimmock married a Joseph Johnson 1882 at Cradley Heath, St Luke.

I believe Sarah Ann could be my William's sister & Joseph is his wife, Elizabeth's brother.

What do you reckon?

Hi

I've finally worked out, to a 99% certainty which William.

My William's in Yorkshire in 1891 & 1901.

The other one [William H] I believe married Eliza Hunt in 1885 at Dudley, St Andrew. He's a glassmaker in the 1891 census, living at Brierley Hill with Eliza & 3 kids [Adam, William & Minnie] - he appears to have stretched the truth about his age - it's shown as 31 [born circa 1860] at Brierley Hill - Ancestry have incorrectly transcribed his name as Cammock! In 1901 he's a labourer living at Brierley Hill with Eliza & 5 kids [adding Arthur & Silas] -again he appears to be less than honest about his age - 40 born circa 1861 at Brierley Hill. I can't find him in 1911 but there is a death record for William Henry Dimmock aged 45 on freebmd that was registered at Stourbridge in the June quarter of 1901 - which fits with him being born circa 1855-56.

I love it when a plan comes together.
