I have not been able to find Arnold in the 1911 census. I found him in the 1901 census at 24 Derby Street, Heeley, Sheffield. It has just Edwin, aged 63 and Arnold E, aged 9; no mother, no siblings.

I have not found a marriage for Edwin and Ellen Davies.

Your first post seems to rule out that Arnold as being my grand-pappy, although he wasn't looking very promising.

I have the death certificate for Edwin. d. 5 Dec 1909 at Ecclesall B. Workhouse Infirmary. Formerly a cutlery manager (as in 1901 census). Informant was George E Fell, son, of 14 Ellison Street, Sheffield.

I don't think it occurred to me before to try to track down George, presumably Arnold's brother...

Edwin's age at the 1901 census was 63 so these others tie in. I'm not sure if Edwin had 2 or 3 wives here but it looks as though George and my Arnold were half-brothers. I'll have to study this information more...
