I have Timothys wedding to Emma Downing taken from original film scripts . It does say James is his father :-) It also says father deceased , but I thought James died in 1865 Dudley Register Office DUD/ 056/ 322, and I have him in 1861 Census

I'm a novice at all of this but I thought that birth registration in the UK wasn't introduced until 1837.

Assuming the 1841 Census information is correct, Betsy Mills (who was 8 in 1841) would have been born in c 1833 prior to registration.

So far my approach to stuff before 1833/1841 has been to trawl through all the local parish records looking for relevant Hazlewood's (as well as Mills's and one or two other related names I've been working on). But only about 1/4 way through the records so far (back to about 1800) and I've been concentrating on those at Dudley Records Office (which in particular has the early records for Oldbury when St John the Baptist, Halesowen was the parish church) since I know they will not be available later this year when they move their records from Coseley to Tipton Road, Dudley. Is there a less labour intensive approach than this ?

If this was the Nancy Mills on the 1841 Census, she would be age 57 in 1841. She is actually recorded in 1841 as being age "50" (though I know these are only approximate ages).

On the 1851 Census she is recorded as being age 68, which means she would have been born in c 1783, so the birth date on Ancestry looks about right.

Must go and check out the St John the Baptist, Halesowen parish records for 1783 on my next day off !!!

I think so , James must have been there as his uncle because his own father was dead . somehow they must have thought James was his father .
