I cannot find any census on Jeremiah Firkin , But I have found one on his Son ;
1861 On Board his Vessel moored at Cheadle
Jeremiah Firkin Head 28 Boatman (Master) Born Birmingham
Emma Firkin Wife 27 Birmingham
Elizabeth Daughter 6 Oldbury
John Son 4 Oldbury
Eliza Daughter 4 Months Oldbury
I think you will find they are all a Canal family. Including Ann Firkin ,and her Sister Mary Berry nee Firkin

They made their living on the canals!! Well done DT.
That would explain the connections with Penkridge and Gailey.Also Lodge Street and Stone street are right next to the Tat Bank Basin in Oldbury.
So they are all these Firkin's are connected in some way or another.Mercy Firkin 1856-1896 was my Great Grandmother.
