Jan,
The 1911 Wales census shows that elizabeth (Betsy) had 11 children in total, of which 5 were alive at that time. We have only identified 7 in total so there may be a Ruth somewhere.


Like you, I now need a rest from these Smiths. Thanks to you, Jimmy et al for your help todate.

To assist and for future reference, Samuel died on 24 March 1902, aged 73 years. The certificate also shows that he was a former "˜Collier"™ and he died in 21 Meadow Street, Pontycymmer, Llangeinor. The cause of death is shown as "˜Senile Decay"™ and his death was registered by his son, William, whose address is shown as 32 Meadow Street, Pontycymmer.

The 1911 census shows Betsy ("˜widow"™) still living in 21 Meadow Street, Pontycymmer, Llangeinor with son, Samuel ("˜Coal Haulier below ground"™) and granddaughter, Ada Mary. There are also two boarders, William Samuel and Henry Samuel; both are "˜Coal Miner Hewers"™. The census also shows that Betsy had eleven (11) children in total, six of whom had died by that time.

Betsy died on 13 September 1913, aged 79 years. The death certificate shows that she was the widow of a "˜Coal Miner/Hewer"™ and that, like her husband, she died in 21 Meadow Street, Pontycymmer, Llangeinor. The cause of death is shown as "˜Pneumonia, Debility and Exhaustion"™ and her death was registered by her son, William, whose address is shown as 32 Meadow Street, Pontycymmer.
