Yes... those all agree with what I have on my 'Ancestry' tree... including Ann Maria's second husband William PETERS.

Ernest Edward was my great grandfather... he married Harriet COOKE and I have quite a few photos of him, which is nice!
Bertha went on to marry John Herbert L BURTON and had 4 children, I think.
Joseph H GREAVES is a complete mystery..... We didn't know he existed until I started to do the 'Ancestry' tree... but I now have his birth certificate.. so I know he definitely was son of James and Ann Maria... I can't find him after 1881 though!... if anyone has any ideas?

The MINCHINS are another puzzle... I think I found somewhere that Francis MINCHIN may have been Frances ARDEN before she married... but haven't been able to tie MINCHINS to GREAVES or HIPKISS

Bit of an update..
I now have the marriage certificate for Joseph HIPKISS and Frances GREAVES 22 April 1839, Parish Church, Parish of Edgbaston.
Joseph - full age-bachelor, resident Livery St..locksmith..... father Joseph HIPKISS (locksmith)
Frances GREAVES- full age, spinster, resident Bishopsgate St...... nothing entered for father or his occupation ( does this suggest she was illegitimate?)
Witnesses- Joseph ?? ( can't read it ) and Martha GREEN

I am pretty certain that these are the parents of my Ann Maria HIPKISS.

Now I would like to go further back but I can't find Joseph's father Joseph HIPKISS on any census?
I thought that maybe 1841 census might show him living on Livery St.... but all I found was

James HIPKISS (71) whitesmith
Ann HIPKISS (65)
James HIPKISS (9)

Could James be his father?

Any ideas?

Wasn't Joseph's father a Joseph, from his Marriage Entry :?:

The only way to find Joseph's father's name is to find his baptism.

Sorry Linell... I worded myself badly there.... Yes Joseph would be father of Joseph.. I then meant that maybe James was the grandfather.
I wonder if a metal roller could be a locksmith? This chap you found would certainly be the right age?

Hi Expat, I would definitely think a Metal Roller could evolve into a Locksmith, try googling 'Metal Roller' and see what it says. Birmingham was the City of a thousand trades, I often think how talented some of these old craftsmen and women were, the goods they used to turn out, with so much precision. Linell.

Sorry... I should have said,
Yes.. I'm pretty sure they are Joseph HIPKISS and Frances GREAVES.. as so many things tie up..occupation, addresses, associated relatives etc.

Very interesting that Frances was a GREAVES... I don't know how she links in with the GREAVES I have already... but it is possible that when Ann Maria married James GREAVES she was marrying a cousin? ( it's a bit frustrating when there is no father listed on her marriage certificate!)

Thanks again everyone for your input

Thanks for sharing that expat, sounds very much like Frances must connect somewhere with James, keep up the good work, best wishes from Linell.
