Hi NL, The recipe says serves 4-6 if you do that sort of quantitly. I would say if you are feeding 6 hungry people , you would need some veg to go with it.

On to the most important thing of the day!
Fish pie a la Carol!
Northern Lass put all of her culinary skills into producing a feast worthy of a quality restaurant!
Without me once having to phone the fire brigade- although they were on stand by!
I was pleasantly surprised and would give it an 8 or 9 out of 10!
and would look forward to having that meal again
Well done Carol
off to crack another bottle!

Well I have to say I have done it in the kitchen!
The fish pie has been sunk hook line and sinker.....and we await the results in a few hours time...hospitals are on standby!
I have to say Carol it wasn't bad... but ... wot the heck was all that milk about....
I was mixing this dough and using bucket loads of flour to mop up the milk!
Sorry but Delia got it right with 8oz!!
I added prawns and mushrooms and had it with a salad and it was tasty.
used cornflour instead of flour
burnt the scones on one side and they were too soggy! and not thick enuff!
But all in all yeah I would cook it again!
So ta Carol...result!
The chinese up the road is without our custom tonite
So think on guys about Feb and wot we doing then
ps will post the photo tomoz

Re: Get yer pinny on we are having a COOK OFF! starting January!
Well done NL and glad you survived to tell the tale Wolvie
I'm not sure about the milk quantity- I kind of used enough to make enough sauce for my sized dish and threw the fish in it first to cook and then just added some more to the pastry mix -enough to make a sort of dough- I didn't really measure it
No doubt why I had bits hanging over the edge of the dish

Think we all need to come up with a new idea this week and put to the vote again, rather than working our way through the last list .
Have a confession to make-I blame these variefocals-just checked my original book and that miniscule number 1 making up 1/4 of a pint is actually a 3-should have been 3/4 of a pint-sorry NL

Re: Get yer pinny on we are having a COOK OFF! starting January!
I had too much milk as well!! So i kept pouring flour in to make a dough!!
Anyway the pastry on top was too heavy!! Its still weighing a ton on my stomach now 4hrs later!!
I'm hopeless with pastry despite being taught by my Auntie Dot who was/is a renowned pastry cook, well she is at Rowley Hall School!!
The fish underneath the dough was lovely so next time i'll just make it with grated Chedder(which i found in our village)not found like on the street but bought from a shop!!
Photo has been made.
I'll put it on in a minute.

Re: Get yer pinny on we are having a COOK OFF! starting January!
I have a confession to make, too
When I looked at the recipe for the pastry, I thought to myself "That's a scone mix!", and being a lazy sod, I bought scone mix and sort of improvised from there with the milk, cheese and mustard powder etc. And it was great!!!
I think there's all sorts of variations you could make with this dish - paprika in the scone mix, curry in the fish mix, add potatoes.

Some mistakes are too much fun
to only make once.

Re: Get yer pinny on we are having a COOK OFF! starting January!
I have more sympathy now for all those transcribers who make errors with Henrys,Fooths and Troths etc-sorry again folks
Will do better next time
Never mind - I give it 10 out of ten, -firstly because no one else will and secondly because it got me away from ready meals for a change
