*Help pls adding to BCC* ---Edward EVANS(B.1849 Oldbury)..

Post by expat66 »

I was going to give myself a rest from this 'Ancestry' stuff but... it is impossible!

Edward EVANS (B. 1849).. I am trying to work out who is parents were... but there are so many EVANS!!

From the marriage certificate of Edward EVANS and Hannah DEARNE in 1873 in Harborne... Edward's father is listed as William EVANS a labourer.
Although bride and groom are shown as resident in Harborne at the time of their marriage I know that Edward was born in Oldbury ( from the 1881 census)

1881 Moat Lane, Warley
Edward EVANS..head...married..33..labourer..born Oldbury
Hannah EVANS.. wife..33..born Bristnall Fields
Sarah EVANS... daughter...unmarried...7...born Langley
William EVANS...son...6....born Langley
Elizabeth EVANS.....daughter...4...born Langley
Ephraim EVANS...son....3...born Langley
Mary EVANS...daughter...10months...born Langley ( my great grandmother!)
Alfred DAKIN...son...15.... errand boy ...born Spon Lane..([i]thinking this is actually son of Hannah's sister... still trying to confirm)

1891 Rood End... Edward had remarried... Hannah died in 1890.. he didn't waste much time!
Edward EVANS ...head....married.....42...labourer farm...born Oldbury
Mary EVANS...wife...34...born Warley
William EVANS...son...16...labourer farm...born Langley
Elizabeth EVANS...daughter...14...born Langley
Ephraim EVANS...son...13...born Langley
Mary EVANS..daughter...10...bron Langley
Dricilla EVANS...daughter..8...born Langley
Levi EVANS...son...7... born Langley
Susan EVANS...daughter..5..born Langley
Annie EVANS...3...born Langley
Edward EVANS...son..9months..born Langley
Alfred DAKIN...nephew..18..farm labourer born Smethwick
Mary HOLLOWAY..motherinlaw...widow..69..born Warley
Sissy HOLLOWAY..stepdaughter...6..born Warley

Now on the 1861 I found this possible match for Edward's parents... note how many of the names are the same as the ones he gave his own children.
I will post this census separately

1861 Derry Lane (?) Warley Wigorn, Quinton

William EVANS...head...mar...50..labourer...born Montgomeryshire
Sarah EVANS...wife...41...born Warley Wigorn
Elizabeth EVANS...daughter..unmarried...18...washing powder packer..born Warley Wigorn
Susan EVANS...daughter...unmarried...17.." " " " " "
Sarah EVANS...daughter.."..14..born Oldbury
Edward EVANS...son...12... labourer.. born Oldbury... ([i]possibly my Edward?)
Drisilla EVANS...daughter..9..scholar..born Oldbury
Levi EVANS...son...6..scholar..born Oldbury
Mary EVANS...daughter..5..scholar..born Oldbury
Samuel EVANS...son...2..born Oldbury
David EVANS..son..1 month..born Oldbury

Now if I compare this list of names to the one I have for Edward EVANS household of 1891..did Edward name his children after his parents and his siblngs?

Do you think I have found the right parents.... I am nervous because there are EVANS all over the place!

This marriage probably took place at Christ Church, Quinton. Lots of people from Oldbury, Langley and Warley were married at this Church. It's listed as Stourbridge, but the records are kept in Birmingham Archives. Do you want to add it to the Birmingham Lookups
