I'm always suprised at the amount of people who never wash their hands after going to the toilet!! A couple of us at work kept note of this and it was upper management who were the worst offenders!!! And since the French have infiltrated our company it's even worse!!

At work the toilets for the patients are dreadful, they could clean them ten times a day easy (most of the patients that use these are outpatients) The staff toilet nearest where I work does get used by patients as it's accessable from the main corridor, I always use alcohol after I've come out of the toilet, as it's impossible to come out without touching the door handle. A few years ago I was in the states, at one of the big shopping centers the toilets were done, so there was an in door and an out door, and you didn't need to touch any door handle after washing your hands!! Pity more plaves didn't do this!!

That's a good idea - I always take some toilet roll and to hold while I open the door- my grandchildren have also got into the habit of doing this.

It's dead easy at work, as we have alcohol dispensers everywhere. Other places I use my elbow or like you Antie Em, toilet paper. Also when we wash our hands, apart from learning how to wash our hands, we also learn to dry our hands and then use the paper towel to turn off the water. It's important to dry hands properly as wet hands pick up bacteria etc more easily.

Mum told me once that a study had shown that using an air hand-dryer left more bacteria on your hands than not washing them in the first place. I don't know if that is true but I do tend to use extra tissue rather than the driers.
Probably it is best not to think too much, what about when we eat out somewhere? Did the kitchen staff all wash their hands? Did they sneeze near the salad? And if we live too clean a life then our kids up with asthma instead. can't win can we?

I've certainly never seen a hand dryer in a hospital!! There is something good to be said about dirt, it just depends what it is and where it is! Working in a hospital there are probably more nasties about, and more people who need to be careful. They do say that allergies and asthma are our body's immune systems over-reaction to not having enough to do! And some studies do show that people who grew up in on farms and played amongst the animals have less allergies etc than the general population.

I suppose a nice drop of sauvignon blanc goes down well at work! I used to go into the toilets to use alcohol hic!
