Hoping to be pointed in the right direction....

My GG- grandfather was William John Mitchell, born abt 1852 in Hayle (according to the 1881 Census). He married Elizabeth Ann Ford in Kingston in 1876 and from the marriage Cert, we get that his father was John Mitchell.

He does appear on both the 1891 and 1901 censuses, can't afford 1911 yet!!

I thought I had found his Birth Certificate but on ordering it, the fathers name was wrong so I obviously got the wrong bloke!

Am really struggling to find this family on the earlier census returns, just don't have enough info to pin them down.

Does anyone have any tips on where to go next??

Your big clue in the 1881 census is his brother Nicholas.

Once you have two siblings it is usually easy to trace the family.

There are so many possible marriages I will have to ry and find a Baptism.

Nicholas first wife is Elizabeth Purdy. On th church record his father is John Mitchell, Fitter.
