*Archive?* Job verification

Post by stormswift »

I feel I am now actually on the road to researching my tree as today I have recieved my 1st certificate
I am now in the procession of my great grandfathers marriage certificate. As you all know this now gives me his fathers name and also an age for him to help me track down his birth cert. I am trying now to work out what his profession was but am a little stuck. I'll attach a jpg of the profession end for you to see. I thought it said bottler, bollter or perhaps bouter. Searching google gives me just a match for bottler, what was described as a buskers 'monkey'. A person with the job of collecting the money for street performers. Has anyone come across this term before or may it read something else?

Looks like Bottler to me too.
From
http://rmhh.co.uk/occup/index.html
Bottiler / Bottler A person who made leather containers for holding liquids eg wine flasks or water bottles. From the turn of the 17c it would more likely refer to a worker in a bottling factory for beer, soft drinks, water etc.

Count me in on this idea --- does it match with any census occupations -- having said that some changed their occupation radically between census so even if there isn't any corroboration there it doesn't mean it isn't something to do with bottles.
