Went to the archives yesterday and tried to transcribe a document - It was a settlement certificate from 1721

Can anyone provide some context or guess what the missing bits could be please?

William Angoll and John Poulton Church Warden and the overseers of the of poor of the < > parish do by the < > to be given by < ryoynd> supplying < > sports in the law for the relief of the Poor of this Kingdom and acknowledge that William Gowler singleman is an inhabitant legaklly settled in the said parish of Warboys and not elsewehre.
In < gs> wheres as < > < > Rossunto? sat our hands and < > twenty fourth day of October in the 8th year of the Reign of our Soverign Lord George, by the Grace of God < > Geat Britian <F > and < > King < > of the <A > <D > 1721


Im assuming the document refers to a settlement act - hence needing the document. As it mentions the poor - should I be looking for poor records etc?

Can't fill in the gaps Andrew, they could be anything, really need to see the original document. But examinations of Settlements were made by two Justice of the Peace, in order to establish if any act had been committed to give settlement in a particular Parish. Are you sure this William connects to you :?:

Yes definately sure!
He was married in Brampton, but is from Warboys, he marries a Prudence who he later has children with back in Warboys!

Skimming through them it looks as though the overseers' records could be worth look at as they might list your man's name if he had to be paid for in any way.
If you go back to the archives perhaps you could get a member of staff to help read the detail? Or ask if you could take a digital photo and then we can all have a go. :-)

Well teh whole document is there minus the words I cant see - didnt seems to be any other names or Dates etc.

But will check the overseer records - Thanks!

These sort of documents tended to be fairly standard in their layout at least within a parish. Would it be worth looking at some other similar documents to see if the writing was clearer or gave any clues as to formation of letters etc.
