Can't find any immigration records - searched under Smart, Hodgetts and Jones (thourght I'd found it there, but it turned out to be a male S Jones!).

Thomas L certainly could be Amos son - the dates match. So that would make Walter E (b.1824) one of Amos' gr grandchildren. Have you looked for Thomas' emigration?
