Got marriage certificate - now what? - help needed

Post by roke »

Hi everyone,
This is my first post and the first time I have ever looked for someone and really need some help.

I am looking for a person (probably living) and have got as far as obtaining their marriage certificate. I am pretty sure that she divorced the other person (her husband) who is on the marriage certificate - but is there anyway of finding this out?

The problem is that she has a very popular first name and surname plus she changed the spelling of it from birth. Both her maiden and married names are very popular names. Another problem is that the address given on the marriage certificate is given as a residential home which I think no longer exists.

Its so frustrating as I thought with receipt of the marriage certificate I would be able to find her fairly easily but it seems to have had the opposite effect although I could find her mothers death index as she had an unusual first name but the person I am trying to find remains really difficult to track down.

Please could anyone help?

Hi, and welcome.
To be honest we are better on here at finding people who are well dead!
If you live in the UK you could try http://www.192.com/people/ You can search for the name and see what comes up, it includes recent electoral role information so there is some age bracketing which might help. My parents both died a few years ago and there deaths are on there, along with last address. I think you have to register to see some details but it should still be free up to a point. You could try looking for the ex-husband too perhaps, see if he is still alive.
That is all I can think of but I'm sure someone will have better ideas.

you could post what you have and we could help to find it if you cannot ?
A person should have an opinion on everything, It becomes tact whether you reveal that opinion or not.

As the person may be living its best not to put the name or information of them on the forum.

If it was a resedential home she was living in it may be in local papers where the residents went?
Try local papers too see if a death is mentioned or as Linell said freembd.
As gardener said 192 is a good place too.

You could contact the local council about the residential home - even if it is a private home it has to be regulated by Social Services, usually in conjunction with the local council. You may have to prove your relationship, but they may give you the information you're looking for. Even if the home is now closed - the records will be held somewhere.
There's no place like home ......
