Newbie from Finland says Hi for all

Post by Taru »

Hello,
I'm from Finland and quite recently got interested in my roots - from my mother's side my background is in Karelia (after WW2 a part of Russia...).

One great grand unckle of mine is totally 'lost' and with some relatives we'd like to know what happened to him. His name was Väinö (Wäinö) PEUSSA, born in 01.11.1888 in Koivisto (Karelia), Finland. Round year 1910 he left Finland aiming to USA. He had wrote one letter for his mom, not very long after he had left, telling that he is ok and he'll send more information after he has settled. No one knows anymore where the letter came from , but no one heard of him no more after that single letter...

I've been searching from dozens and dozens of web sites but with only one possible 'hit' - there states that a person called 'Peussa, Vajno' has died in Dec 1919, at the age of 31, in Prescot (which, I presume as a foreigner, is a part of Lancashire?). http://www.freebmd.org.uk/cgi/search.pl searching with just the surname of 'Peussa' . These a's and o's with dots are a bit difficult, but if a foreigner tries to pronounce the name 'Väinö' it really sounds precisely like this written 'Vajno' .

From LancashireBMD http://www.lancashirebmd.org.uk/deathcov.php I found nothing and realized that Prescot records are not indexed yet (I'm not sure did I interprete the chart in a right way..?).

Perhaps my dilemma should be in some other chapter...? There are some english people with the name of Peussa, and of course we'd like to find out if our ancestor did have a family, or children in UK :-) It would be really nice to find relatives!

I've been reading this forum for quite many times before joining in - there seems to be such wonderful people that I dare to ask for some help, advice and tips how to proceed in my quest.

:-) :-) kind regards, Taru
