I would agree with the following FMP transcription of the above which probably confuses things further!

Anything is possible -- it could just be that as a very close family Emily adopted her niece Elizabeth unofficially and considered her as more than a niece

Interestingly I see Benjamin who was a "son" in 1861 became a "nephew" in 1871 -- so they dont' seem to be too sure of relationships.
