What a palaver!

Post by gardener »

Honest to goodness! I need to renew my passport... I have to send it and application to Germany!

And it takes up to four weeks to process, and they say don't ask about it for another two weeks after that as queries just slow the process down.

And it costs 162 euros plus 22 euros return cost (plus the cost of sending it there) = over 150 quid.

What a racket! And that is on top of the usual hassle of photos and countersigning of form etc. It is almost enough to make me apply to be Icelandic!

Looks like I'll be stuck on this rock until the end of February at least. Makes me feel claustrophobic

Tell me about it!
Not only does it cost more than if you live in the UK, but they may even give you a new passport with outdated technology!
On top of that, if you have time left on your old one you don't get any of it transferred over unlike my parents who got a month transferred over!

I'm not sure, but I think I can have a Danish passport as a foreigner - maybe that's cheaper.
It's certainly easier - my husband went down to the local town hall 5 mins (literally) before closing - they took his picture, he signed some computer thingy, swiped his credit card, handed in his old passport. Five days later the passport had arrived!
