*Archive?* Artust CHARLES WARREN

Post by jschelleng »

I am looking for any information on CHARLES WARREN, an artist (by avocation if not vocation) living in Chelsea around 1825-1840. He was good enough to exhibit in the 1833 Royal Academy Exhibition and and the 1835 the Royal Society of British Artist Exhibition. A few of his prints are still available. We know he had a wife Caroline and a daughter Caroline Lucy (Dec 20, 1831). We also believe that Charles was the brother of HENRY WARREN, a well known artist at the time and president of the Royal Institute of Painters in Water Colours. We know nothing about either WARREN's birth or parentage, and nothing about CHARLES marriage or death. Any help is welcomed.

According to the Parish Register and London Baptism index, Caroline Lucy was born on the 30th December 1831, not the 20th.

Baptised at St Lukes, Chelsea on the 10th Feb 1832.

Looking for the marriage in the same church.....

Nearest marriage and Banns I can find is at St Mary's in Lambeth in Surrey.

Banns start on the 27th Jun 1830 and the marriage is on the 25th August 1830.

Carolines maiden name is Warren as well.

Witnesses are both Warrens.

No mention of profession of the groom.

If Alfred was born after registration is required then his registration distict would be Kensington if born in Chelsea.

There are a few Alfred's born around London and Middlesex but none registered in Kensington.

If he was registered then that is the easiest way of finding his mother's maiden name.

You can order certificates from the GRO with the proviso that the mother is Caroline so you don't waste money.
