Hi all

Post by steveb »

Just joined the forum.i`m interested in tracing my treeline and thought you lot would be a handy bunch to help me on my way with numerous DUMB questions.
I am wondering what applications etc i need and as this may not be for me is it worth joining the likes of ancestory who are offering a 14 day free trial before i shell out any hard earned money?
Also is it worth just pursuing one line like my fathers till i get used to this?
Plenty of questions to come so bear with me if i post to the wrong section of the board
Happy hunting :-)

Hi Steve welcome to the forum

following your father line would be the easiest as the surname stays the same poss different spelling
A person should have an opinion on everything, It becomes tact whether you reveal that opinion or not.

Hi Steve and Welcome - Just start with your father and his parents - you'll be surprised how soon you venture on to the other branches. Oh and by the way - it is very addictive.

Hi, Welcome to the forum

If I remeber rightly on Ancestry's free trial you have to give them your credit card number, and if you don't want to continue then you have to cancel your subscription. That said, I couldn't have got so far without ancestry, as I live in Denmark, so visiting archives is not practical!

Sue - do they have the LDS church where you live. When I feel like trawling through a particular county, the one in Harborne orders the film for me and I go there to read it. They keep it for about three weeks, longer if I need it - it costs about £3.50

They usually are funny opening hours, but it's work going - they have lots more than they have on the IGI site, and they are really helpful. If you go along and tell them what area you want - you can order up to 3 films. They get them from Utah, but it usually only takes a week or two for them to arrive. If you go into familysearch, then drop down the Library box to Library catalogue and you can search area etc.

Hi Steve and welcome to the forum

Certainly it is easy to go back reasonably quickly on a male line but I started with what I know first ie Grandparents and if Possible any info on G Grandparents

it is addictive because everything you find out gives you another question

Happy Hunting
