Storage of memorabilia etc

Post by Helen Frost »

Hi all

I have all my paperwork kept in archive wallets etc but I have various items that I'm not sure how to store them,

I have things like a birth plate (birth dates engraved on a pottery plate) its already got a crack on it so don't want it to get worse,I also have the hospital tag put on me just after I was born plus few few other nik naks that wouldn't fit into archive wallets

Any advice

Helen

There are companies that do acid free storage boxes. I found this one when a friend was looking for a box to store her wedding dress in:

I've not ordered anything from them as yet.

might be worth seeing if you can get the plate encased in clear plastic so it wont deteriate anymore ?

I picked that a couple of years ago for my kids to buy me as a pressy.
Sorry to say but I was really disapointed with it. Its stuck in my wardrobe mainly empty.
I hope its improved and works for you.

Its arrived!

Firstly they aren't exactly quick about dispatching them so please bear that in mind when ordering
Purchased on Thursday & they dispatched it on Wednesday so allow at least a week for it to be delivered,

My initial reaction was its a lot of money for some cardboard boxes BUT thats before looking around local shops for an alternative
& basicly there isn't one!

I trawled through various genealogy suppliers & to be honest if I bought everything what is in the box it would have probably cost more than what I paid which was £34 inc delivery by parcelforce 48hr,

I think once you get over the fact that these are not just cardboard boxes but museum quality storage boxes, I think the company supplies the royal family with its boxes as it has a royal warrant, all in all I'm quite happy with what I have bought,
Below is a list of items you get

This pack contains 5 Acid Free * Storage Boxes and much more.
•Outer box, 450x325x90mm
Fits A3-size papers. You could store newspapers, a scrapbook or a photo album.
•Flip-top box, 315x220x85mm
A4 size box perfect for family letters, certificates, invitations, special cards and collectables.
•Medium box, 290x205x85mm
For mementoes, keepsakes, cards, tickets from that special trip, home-shot DVDs and so on.
•Tall box, 165x125x127mm
The right size for standard photographs, a pair of baby shoes, tapes and other easily-mislaid items.
•Little boxes, (2) 60x50x23mm
To prevent small items getting lost and forgotten.
•Quiz box containing:
â"”¦Talk and tell family quiz cards
â"”¦Do you know? family quiz cards
â"”¦Quiz cards rule sheet
•Archive tissue paper
•Document folder containing:
â"”¦Family record and medical history sheets
â"”¦Notes & memos sheets
â"”¦Diary sheets
â"”¦Timeline life review sheets
â"”¦Four-generation family tree and family milestone sheet
•Photo mounts
•Box name cards
•Ribbons
