George Wearing 1831

Post by snoopysue »

I'm trying to see if this George Wearing married to Elizabeth matches up with George Wearing on my tree. Note that I've found Waring and Wearing as spelling variations, I've decided to stick to Wearing.

29 Apr 1852 -All Saints, West Bromwich, By Licence
George Wearing, Min, B, Brass Founder, of West Bromwich, Father William Wearing, Brass Foreman
Elizabeth Gittoes, Min, S, of West Bromwich, Father Thomas Gittoes, Farmer
Wit : Esther Gittoes, William Wearing, Sarah Gittoes and George Hodgetts

The George Wearing b. 15 Jun 1831 possibly in West Bromwich (chr 21 Aug 1831, Bilston) on my tree is the son of William Wearing and Mary Mitchell Knowles (married 30 May 1814, St Peters, Wolverhampton). Other children include; Joseph Wearing b. about 1815 (according to 1851 census born in West Bromwich but christened in Tipton 12 May 1815). Sarah Wearing b. abt 1817 (christened 24 june 1817 bilston); William Wearing b.abt 1819 (chr: 24 Oct 1819, Bilston): Thomas Wearing b.abt 1822 (christened 21 Oct 1822, Bilston) Harriet Wearing b. abt 1825 (chr 16 Jan 1825 Bilston).

1841 Census:
Bridge End, West Bromwich.
WEARING, Mary F 45 1796 Staffordshire
WEARING, Thomas M 18 1823 Staffordshire
WEARING, Harriet F 15 1826 Staffordshire
WEARING, George M 9 1832 Staffordshire

According to my aunts research, George's father William died abt 1849. There are a couple of possibles on BMD for the death.

Any help gratefully appreciated! :P

Possible 1851 Census:
Hawkess Lane, West Bromwich
SIDDOWS, Thomas Head Married M 45 1806 Shoe Maker West Bromwich
Staffordshire
SIDDOWS, Mary Wife Married F 50 1801 West Bromwich
Staffordshire
WEARING, George Son Unmarried M 20 1831 Brass Founder West Bromwich
Staffordshire

Haven't been able to find a marriage between Mary and Thomas though!

Possible 1861 census:
High Street, West Bromwich
GILLOES, Elizabeth Head Married M 53 1808 Wednesbury
Staffordshire
GILLOES, Sarah Daughter Unmarried F 26 1835 Wednesbury
Staffordshire
GILLOES, Jane Daughter Unmarried F 24 1837 Wednesbury
Staffordshire
GILLOES, Charlotte Daughter Unmarried F 23 1838 Wednesbury
Staffordshire
GILLOES, John Smith Son Unmarried M 17 1844 West Bromwich
Staffordshire
GILLOES, Thomas H Son Unmarried M 15 1846 West Bromwich
Staffordshire
GILLOES, Louisa Daughter F 11 1850 Scholar West Bromwich
Staffordshire
WEARING, George Boarder Son In Law Married M 29 1832 Brass Founder West Bromwich Staffordshire
WEARING, Elizabeth Granddaughter Unmarried F 8 1853 Scholar West Bromwich
WEARING, George T Grandson Unmarried M 6 1855 Scholar West Bromwich
WEARING, John A Grandson Unmarried M 2 1859 West Bromwich
WEARING, William H Grandson M 4 1857 Scholar West Bromwich
EDWICK, Samuel Apprentice M 17 1844 Brass Carter Bromsgner Worcestershire WITTINGTON, Eliza Servant F 23 1838 House Servant Shropshire

The image definitely says Gilloes rather than Gittoes. But in 1871:

High Street, West Bromwich.
WEARING, George Head M 39 1832 Staffordshire
WEARING, Elizabeth Wife F 39 1832 Staffordshire
WEARING, Elizabeth Daughter F 18 1853 Staffordshire
WEARING, George T Son M 16 1855 Staffordshire
WEARING, William H Son M 14 1857 Staffordshire
WEARING, John A Son M 12 1859 Staffordshire
WEARING, Charlotte A Daughter F 8 1863 Staffordshire
WEARING, Frederick C Son M 4 1867 Staffordshire
SANDERS, Charles Visitor M 16 1855 Staffordshire
GITTOES, Lousia Wife's Sister F 20 1851 Staffordshire
WATTS, Sarah Servant F 13 1858 Staffordshire

Note Wife's sister!

The Wm Wearing Witness is probably George's father Sue. If you can get a copy of the License, it will have lots of detail on there, Father's Names, Occupations, where they lived, signatures etc.

Linell.

P.S. Are you on here all day every day :?:

Shame you have to work then Sue

As for the License, I would ask Sandwell Archives first off see if they hold the Licenses there, the ones I have seen are on Micro Film.

You do sleep occaisionally NL, don't you? :?

We can see what Sandwell Archives say (although judging by past experience I'll be waiting a while!), and then take it from there.
