( Completed ) External Hard Drive Help Please.

Post by Annie »

I have an external hard drive so I can back my PC and stuff on , when I do a full PC back up it takes well over a hour and tell you which files it is copying and backing up and the external drive light is on or flickering . When it's finished the folder is there with date time and everything but the folder is empty :? :o , so any idea's what I am doing wrong please.

Hi Annie

I back up once a month and instead of copying all the files, I have one for each month - ie Nov 2010, Dec 2010 and Jan 2011. I copy everything and it takes hardly any time to do, just open two computer windows, one for your PC and one for your portable drive and drag and drop everything you want to back up.

Hi AuntieEm and thank you for your help , you have a good system going I will have to try it, I back up every month but can't think why the folder/file keeps being empty, for the time being I am right clicking on each file and sending them to the portable drive but will have a go at your way it sounds easier than mine .

Thank you for your time.

It's safer too I think - I keep a backup for every month for a year and then the next year start again.
