How sure are we that his parents are William Skidmore born 1757 and Mary Taylor born 1757?

That is what I have in my tree but dozens of people on Ancestry and Genes Reuinited have his parents as William Skidmore born 1774 and Mary Banner born 1776 who married in Birmingham in 1796.

According to other trees, this is his baptism...

His two marriages are

Susannah Smith 5th March 1826 at Kingswinford.

Maria Jewkes nee Marsh 3rd August 1851 at Sedgley

It was also Maria's 2nd marraige and they lived together as man/wife prior to the marriage.

P.S. The name for Cornelius in the 1851 census is Neely, a common nickname for Cornelius. Not Nealy as some have it.

This broadly corresponds to what Linda Moffat says in her book Skidmore Families of the Black Country and Birmingham 1600-1900 (2004). Cornelius, known as "Naley", was the son of William Skidmore and Mary Taylor. He was born on 14 December 1803, probably at Springs Mire, Dudley, married first Susannah Smith b. 1805 on 5 March 1826 in Kingswinford and second Mrs Maria Jukes b. about 1817 Gornal, on 3 Aug 1851 at Sedgley. His father William bpt. 23 Jan 1757 Oldswinford married Mary Taylor b. 1757 Oldswinford on 17 April 1780 at Oldswinford. William's parents were John and Mary Skidmore who married in 1740/1. That John's father was probably John Skidmore bpt. 29 Apr 1704 Kingswinford, son of John Skidmore bpt 30 Mar 1681 Kinswinford who married a Penelope c. 1700, son of Francis Skidmore bpt. 2 April 1632 Kingswinford and Ann Glover bpt 19 Apr 1646 Kingswinford, married at Kingswinford 8 February 1675/6.

the oldest sibling if correct seem to be born around 1790 i can link mary and peter, peter and jemmia, jemmia look to be living a few doors away from elizabeth and cornelius ? with there respected partners


this book as been out for about 6 years approx, although poss it could be wrong it the bible at the moment to black country skidmore, and there are no challenges that dennis has mention that it might be incorrect

dennis does the book contain any thing about this couple ?
