David Perry 1856

Post by dianel »

David is the son of Hannah and Joseph Perry, and stepson of Humphrey Coley on another thread.

An Ancestry Tree suggests that Davis's mother's maiden name was Hannah Hingley (1808-1891), and that she is the daughter of James Hingley & Mary Billingham (on BCC here:, but with a different husband).

Hannah's marriage to Joseph Perry is said to have occurred in 1835 in Rowley Regis. Can we confirm this?

She is then said to have married Humphrey Cole in 1865 at Dudley, after Joseph's death in Sep 1855 at Rowley Regis.

The Hannah on BCC is still having children to Robert Brookes in the late 1840s with the last, Henrietta being born in 1850. I think this means that we cannot have the same Hannahs.

I think this is Hannah & Joseph Perry (David's parents) in 1841, and that Dinah is the Amelia D. Perry who is with them as an "inmate" in 1851 - possibly Joseph's sister?

Because of this:
England & Wales, FreeBMD Death Index: 1837-1915 about Amelia Dinah Perry
Name: Amelia Dinah Perry
Year of Registration: 1854
Quarter of Registration: Oct-Nov-Dec
District: Dudley (To 1912)
County: Staffordshire, Worcestershire

1841 at Five Ways, Rowley Regis
Joseph Perry 20 Cole miner N
Hanah Perry 20 Y
Dinah Perry 5 Y
Thomas Perry 9 MO Y

That is correct Di, Hannah Hingley daughter of James and Mary did Marry Robert Brookes, witnesses at the Marriage were Hannah's brothers James and Tobias Hingley. Please see these notes from the Will of James Hingley:-

Martha married Benjamin Col(l)ey, a chain maker, and had six children. Benjamin was born in Kingswinford, which is where he married Martha. The couple's children were all baptised in Cradley parish church. Hannah married Robert Brooks, who was born in Amblecote, in Rowley Regis parish church on 1 August 1824. Their first two children were born in Rowley Regis, their third in Cradley Heath and their forth in Stourbridge, apparently. The first three children were baptised in Park Lane Presbyterian chapel, the forth in the Stourbridge's Wesleyan chapel. In the 1830's the family moved to Liverpool where another six children were born before the family moved back to the Black Country in late 1850 or ealry the following year. Why Robert took his family to Liverpool is not known. He became a steel drawer on his return.
