Lucky kids! My mum hardly ever listened to music, and my dad's taste in music is a little questionable!
It was either classical (okay, but our tastes in classical aren't very similar), folk music (good for a sing a long), or the worst jazz! (not the popular stuff, but the old dreary stuff, King Oliver, Dodds, Louis Armstrong before anyone knew who he was!)
He used to play the clarinet as a young man and was in a jazz group called the Artisian Hall Stompers (I think), some of them apparently went on to greater things, but when Dad was a member they were very amature.

I remember going past a junk shop once with my parents, and there was a clarinet in the window - Mum said if he bourght it that'd be grounds for divorce

Despite being born on exactly the same day as John Lennon, my Dad didn't like "popular" music at all.
