I'm not sure which Mary Carter you were looking for, Peter, but this one 1849-1927 who married William Skidmore came, as far as I can tell, from Mickleton, Gloucestershire, and was the daughter of Thomas Carter born 27 July 1823 near Malmesbury, Wiltshire, died 10 Dec 1881 Dudley Guest Hospital. He married Susan / Susannah Smith (b. Dudley, Worcs 1818 died 29 July 1853 at Shipston-on-Stour) in July 1848 at Shipston-on-Stour and Mary Hannah was the eldest of 7 daughters.

That can't be right, Peter - Susannah Smith didn't die in 1853, her daughter Ada was born in 1868!
