Swimming with dolphins and fur seals....

Post by MarkCDodd »

I went swimming with dolphins and fur seals yesterday.

Both are amazing animals and really enjoy having fun with (and showing off to) their human friends.

I felt safe with the dolphins as sharks keep a wide birth of a pod as they will attack even a large white pointer.

With the seals you feel a bit more vulnerable as they are a favorite snack of the larger sharks and many attacks occur when a wet suited human is mistaken for a seal.

Still, we had spotter on the boat looking out for sharks and the seals soon let you know by vanishing.

Dolphins are just friendly animals and super smart. I can't understand how the Japanese can corner them and butcher them.

The seals are just like aquatic dogs and seem to have the same sense of fun. They smell pretty bad though....

Both animals are so acrobatic underwater they make you feel like the clumsiest creature in the sea.

If ever you visit a place that lets you swim with either animal I highly recommend it.

I have done it several times and it always makes me smile for weeks after.

I swam with dolphin about 10 years ago in mexico as you say fantastic experience would highly reccomend it, but i would advise you to check the place out if not swimming with them in the wild, when i swam with them it was a part of a consevation project which was funded by you paying for the day swimming it was in large sea pens.

If you approach Dolphins in Australian waters that have not been approved and monitored then the fines are huge.

Neraly all organised Dolphin swims are under the watchfull eyes of the conservationists and rangers.
