I have a question regarding marriage entry records.
Does the page and Volume no (Example 1a 875) on a marriage record remain the same for the partners record?
I have a relative who I believe married in 1879 and has a page ref 1D 856, but trying to match him with his spouse, does the number link them in some way?
If not, is there a way to link the two records together to give me the right partner?

Yes the numbers should be the same. Unless one has been difficult to transcribe.
You will get 4 names, sometimes more, for the same page and volume numbers.
Deciding the right partner is a problem if you have the same first name or surname.

The name is Joseph Jonas Whale born 24th Dec 1847. (I believe the ref for him is 1d 856)
Married Mary Anne (or ann), in 1879.
But what I am trying to seek most is the maiden name for Anne. I did think it could be Mary Ann A Allen, married same year but I have since found through one of her children's baptism records is that her name is Mary Ann Margaret.
I did find on a previous search of a different relative, the numbers matched with their partners and hoped that it would in this case, giving me the maiden name, but alas, not this time.

This is the man, just need his wife's maiden name. With all your help, I have the family up to the 1911 census, and the children names and birth years. I make it 9 children (If I counted that right) so I will trace each of them and maybe a clue to the mum's maiden name may be found in one of their records. Thanks again all, for your information. If you do not mind me asking, how did you get the 1911 census?, I can only get up to 1901!.

You can get a subscription to the 1911 from findmypast.co.uk. Costs around £50.00 for one year or you can pay for what you use. Or from 1911census.co.uk. They released it a couple of years early, so some sensitive information is missing
