Hello and help offered tracing WW2 soldiers

Post by paulcheall »

I am on this website in connection with my Dad's world war 2 memoir which I've just completed editing and to help others with research into battles or tracing relatives, as well as using the site for further research on the background to my Dad's story.
Dad started World War 2 in the Territorials, followed by action at Dunkirk, D-Day (Normandy), Wadi Akarit (Tunisia), Sicilian campaign (Husky), Queen Mary voyage to Egypt, being wounded in action and witnessing post-war German devastation as regimental police officer. Dad was a Green Howard with the 50th division amongst others.
If you want to learn more about Dad's memoir, go to http://www.grimdetermination.co.uk/#/th ... 4535338132 where you can read the first chapter, located on the beaches at Dunkirk. The book will be published next year by major publishers Pen and Sword so this is not a vanity publication. There is plenty of stuff on the site, including lots of photographs and a really huge list of names of Dad's comrades and contacts for those people seeking out relatives who may have fought in the war: http://www.grimdetermination.co.uk/#/in ... 4541929777

Kind regards,
Paul

Thanks to all of you for your warm welcome and sorry it's taken me so long to reply. I'm certainly proud of Dad but what a reputation to have to live up to! ;)
Glad the web site was liked - it's always hard with these things to get the balance right in so many ways. I'm grinding away now doing allsorts of research so will give you guys some feedback if anything interesting turns up. Bye for now, Paul
