i think it must be a very rough calculation because different things have changed a lot in price haven't they? I mean, tea used to be really really expensive but it isn't now.

Thank you Gardner for the link I'll give it a click and appreciate it, I agree about the prices of different things it's just to get an idea of some wills I have found.

Try this one, it gives different values depending on what you're interested in. Compared with today the cost of food and other goods was a higher proportion of peoples income than it is today.
