Does anyone bake their own cakes?

Does anyone these days?

I used to bake loads and do cake decorating too!
proper jobby!!

but I got bored with it :roll:

and have just given all my baking tins to my dau
she can't even boil an egg :roll:

is baking a waste of time with all the lovely cakes
you can buy?

My daughters insist on baking their own cakes.

Since they are on the "Do not eat or your omnipotent diabetes Doctor will spank you!" list I can't verify their quality.

I don't bake a lot, but if we have friends over, or if it's a birthday or Christmas then I'll make the effort.

I used to bake a eatable chocolate cake and scones but anything else was uneatable specially pastry, so now I buy from the local bakery or M & S they have some good cakes , their iced Christmas cake is good .

Having said that ,Mallosa does a good birthday cake they all look very yummy. :grin:

Delia does some very good recipes, can recomend her ginger cake with lemon icing, key lime pie and melting chocolate puddings (they are delicious, and you can make them ahead of time, bung them in the freezer, from the freezer directly to the oven - dead easy and they impress my friends)!
She writes a very instructive detailed recipe, I tend to simplify them for my recipe file!!! (Oh and most of them are free on Delia online) :-)

I can't make pastry either, my grandmothers can't be beaten!!!

One of the many subjects that i excelled at school was RK.
The feller in charge, he never wore socks which for some reason i found fascinating well it was probably the times i suppose early 60's and all that. Anyway this teacher gave us a list of biblical verses and from these verses we could find the ingredients for a cake.
I wont bore you with who won 1st prize but San knows how good a cook i am.
I wish i could remember the verses involved but i thought so at the time and although i haven't thought about this since those far off times wasn't that an ingenious way of learning to cook and stimulate your interest in The Bible?

Yes NL.,
I will be making a couple towards the end of October, then wrapping them in foil and feeding with brandy every week till it's time to marzipan and ice them.
I use a recipe from a 1970's Stork recipe book I got from Dudley Tech when I was a student there. I've used it for Xmas, wedding, christening, birthdays etc ever since, it gives the quantities for different measurements of tin, round and square and has never failed me yet.

Actually, I was doing cookery as part of a pre-nursing course and we had to buy the book!!! Think it cost 10p!

Afraid not they never turn out good , what you would call un-eatable :oops:

even the mince pies last year went in the bin. :cry:
