just to introduce myself, my name is Claire, and I'm originally from Stevenage in Hertfordshire, but moved up to the East Midlands in March 2006 and have never looked back.
I've been researching my family tree for several years now, and am getting stuck, especially with the birth of my paternal gt grandfather, as there are no records of his birth that I can find - I've even applied for his birth certificate giving parents names and a good date range, but no joy. My mothers side of the family is proving testing too, as some were quite transient, and others have a commonish surname (Allen) - apparantly they are from Oxfordshire, but I'm having trouble finding them.
Anyway, I've joined here to chat to like minded folk, and who knows, maybe find a distant relative who is doing the same thing as me

Its all fun and games, as my paternal gt grandfather was adopted by his mothers new husband in 1881, and my paternal grandmother was also adopted in the early 1920's, so there is no official record of who her father is.
