So that's not the same Thomas Smith in the 1871 census but can i assume that Thomas Smith who married Caroline Hadley is the one on BCC who's father and mother are Charles Hadley and Hannah Woodhouse?
Actually on Ancestry our DI has connections to Thomas Smith and his father and mother Samual Smith and Julianna Plant.
