Joining the dots

Post by johnny1588 »

was wondering if someone could help me with a positive connection with William Brown here:

http://search.ancestry.co.uk/cgi-bin/ss ... 1&h=676582

And William Brown here:

http://search.ancestry.co.uk/cgi-bin/ss ... off=1+2+57

Birth date and location are spot on, however, its such a commom name it's difficult to be sure if they are one and the same. Also can not find a marriage for william and Elizabeth, so no help there.

Any thoughts!

Looks like the same one, this seems ro clinch it for me...
1911. 11 Derwent View Rowlands Gill
BROWN, William Head Married M 38 1873 Coal Hewer Coxhoe Durham
BROWN, Elizabeth Wife Married
15 years F 34 1877 Wooley Durham
BROWN, George W R Son M 14 1897 Pony Driver Coal Mine Woodside Bp Auckland
BROWN, Ewart Gladstone Son M 12 1899 School Below Ground Woodside Bp Auckland
BROWN, Teeley Alice Daughter F 9 1902 School Rowlands Gill (I think it looks like Seeley, the S is the same as in Schhol)

George first son after his Dad,
Seeley Alice, daur, odd name, but looks like is named after his Mum on census.
A few possible marriages William to Elizabeth around the area and time, may be best to get a birth certificate to see Elizabeths Maiden name?

Possible marriage?
Marriages Sep 1870
BROWN George Durham 10a 464
Cook Barbara Durham 10a 464
Marshall James Durham 10a 464
Straffair Celia Alice Durham 10a 464

There's 2 Seeleys?

Births Mar 1902
BROWN Seeley Alice S Gateshead 10a 1117 (seems like it may be this one)

Births Sep 1905
Brown Seeley Alice Gateshead 10a 973

Births Jun 1898
Brown Ewart Gladstone Auckland 10a 236

Births Jun 1897
Brown George William R Auckland 10a 197

Bingo! I don't have accsess to the 1911 census. Great work grangers, many thanks. William and Elizabeth named their daughter after his mother Celia Alice who can be found here:

http://trees.ancestry.co.uk/tree/560762 ... -559518637

That nails it for me. George W R Brown was my mums dad. She asked me to look into her ancestry as her dad died when she was young and knew, literally nothing about him. With the info you have kindly provided, I can go back now as far as 1811. She will be overjoyed

Oh great!
It would be worth getting some certificates to confirm mind.

Is this completed now? Can it be archived?

It isn't genealogy -- Jo is just asking if this thread can be put away in "cold storage" for the time being -- as it seems to have come to a natural conclusion -- the moderators can bring it back again if you want to add more to it later.
