This connects to my mothers aunt who married an Hinds.( All from Oldbury area)
The French connection is because a lot of french workers came to Oldbury to work in Glass Industry ( Chances) and married locals so you will see a lot of french born people in late 19th Censtury

Thanks for sorting out a family mystery . I will add Census details.
The Hinds family connect to the Nash. Sadler and Wood families who were involved in largest Brickmaking factory in Oldbury ( Wood and Avery). They ended up living in Hawthorne House which was researched in an earlier topic and offspring became very wealthy and were lawyers and doctors and dentists.
My Uncle Fred was son of Thomas Hinds and Jane Kerr ( daughter of William Kerr and Ellen Smallman )
and he always told us he came from very wealthy and rich family from Oldbury and West Bromwich and that his parents had been cut off from main family because of some family scandal ( possibly wrong marriage ?) .
No one believed him until myself and a relative from New Zealand researched family history and found he was right.
This latest research adds to info. and clears William Kerr of running off with a French Girl !!!
