I have two people in my tree, where I suspect errors in their certificates. For one it's the father on her marriage cert who is possibly recorded with the wrong name, for the other it is her husband on the death cert. If the info on these certs is correct, then there is possibly no certificates for these two events.
I was wondering if this is common. And what can I do to sort it out, these events were in the 1860's and 70's.

Information on certificates is generally only as good as the person who gave the info says! Some could tell fibs or just muddle them up! I have certs for my g grandmother. Birth cert 1897 as Letitia Shannon, father James Shannon mother Eliza maiden name as Kemp. James Shannon and Eliza I dont think ever married. Eliza later married this time it says, Eliza Kemp as maiden name Letitias marriage cert says her father is James Kemp. Jo
Thanks for your reply Jo. It looks like I'll never know for sure whether these are errors or not. In some ways it's not essential because cenus and others records confirm who they were and who they were married to etc, but I do like to have things finished off neatly! Thanks again Sue
