I'm hoping someone on this list might be able to help me.
I'm an Oxford-based Australian citizen in the process of applying for a UK ancestry visa.
My father's birth certificate states that my grandfather was born in "Delford, England" in September 1910. A detailed search of Google gives only a handful of references to Delford, Kent (the only Delford in the UK apparently).
Can anyone confirm whether (circa 1910) Delford was a parish in Kent and, if so, what district it could be located in?
My grandfather's name was Harry Clark and the 1911 census lists two possibilities - one Harry Clark born in Hackney district and another in West Ham district - although I'm not sure either of these districts has ever been located in Kent.
Any assistance would be enormously appreciated.
Many thanks,
Phil.

Are you sure its 'Delford' and not Detford
Hackney and West Ham are London districts and
so is Detford.

Could be Defford in Worcestershire. That would make the registration district Pershore.
After 1974 it was transferred to Hereford & Worcester.
There is also Denford in Northamptonshire whose registration district is Thrapston.

Re: Aussie Seeking Help Locating British Grandfather
Hi
I'm not sure that Delford was a place at all - other than Delford Bridge which is in Cornwall I think.
Perhaps it was mis-written? I tried putting Delford in as place name in various UK census and it comes up as "in" all sorts of counties but I think they are all mis-transcriptions of some sort.
As as been said it could be Defford or Deptford. There is also Desford just outside Leicester (and a possible birth recorded at Leicester to fit that, though Desford should register at Market Bosworth.
You know that Harry Clark was born September 1910 at "Delford", England.
He might have been registered as Henry I suppose, and/or as ClarkE. So there is a lot of uncertainty.
Do you know any of the following?
When did Harry moved to Australia?
What did he do?
Did he marry? (His marriage certificate should give his father's name)
I'm sure someone will be able to help if we can scrape up a bit more information
