Thomas Phillips help

Post by fergal_jay »

Hi all hope you can help I am looking for records (preferable military) of a Thomas Phillips
Born 28 Mar 1904 in Chester, Cheshire

We have been told by family he died in the war but I cannot find any records for him as I do not know in which military service he was in. His children were in early teens when he died so they did not know much/would not speak of him.

His parents were William Bottwood Phillips and Elizabeth Hughes and I do know Thomas was an Electrician at the time of his marriage in 1926

Hope you can help

Rebecca

There are 41 Thomas Phillips serving with British forces who died in WWII.

I will see if I can find him for you....

Can't find a match. Did he have a middle name?

What was his wife's name?

Hi Rebecca,

This is going to be very difficult to work out and my first question is how reliable is the information you have that Thomas was killed during the war ? My own experience of family information has proved very hit and miss.

I've checked the records for all Thomas Phillips who died during the 1939-1945 war and there isn't any person that seems to fit. Mark's suggestion about the name of his wife would help because she should be his next of kin and therefore listed on the CWGC. On the CWGC there are a few Thomas Phillips where no information has been listed at all which also doesn't help.

If he wasn't killed but served during the war then without his Army details it's going to be near impossible to find out anymore information.

If he had any children during the war an idea is to obtain these birth certificates because it should give his army details if he did serve. My mother's birth certificate dated 1944 listed her fathers' Regiment and Regimental Number.

Yes his wife was a Laura Annie Lee, He didnt have any children in the war his last child was born 1931. Are you able to find injurys then as maybe he didnt die in the war but was injured and discharged where he later died back in uk possibly. I am unsure if he had a middle name but there is a strong unusual name in the family 'botwood' which was his fathers middle name and one of his sons also his father was William so that could possibly be it.

Any death related to his service, even if years later, would be listed.

Being WWII, if he was just injured you would have to apply for his records.

If he was executed by his own country he would not appear in the Honour Roll.

If he was executed by an enemy or died in a P.O.W. camp he would appear in the Honour Roll.

If he died in any of the civilian services he would appear in the Honour Roll.
