I am looking for information on John Ashman, he married Rebecca Cresswell about 1912 in Stourbridge, he was buried in Stourbridge in 1946. His age on the death certificate is 53, making his year of birth 1893, but on his daughters Florence's birth certificate he is shown as 19 in 1921, making his birth year 1902. Any information on his ancestors would be welcome.

I am afraid we have another possible birth date for John, looking again at his daughter's birth certificate it has 1920 at the top left, April 19 1920 under column 8, When Registered, but where it says Witness my hand and under the signature across the stamp it says 18th April 1921. So with his age shown as 19, his birth year could be 1901 or 1902, I am sure however that Florence was born in 1920 so it either took her mother 12 months to register the birth, or the 1921 dates are a mistake. If anyone has access to the registers, the certificate is Entry No. 390 in the Book of Births No.146. Looking again at the funeral details it looks like a paupers funeral by the Borough of Stourbridge Cemetery Committee, the date of the burial is 11th April 1946 at a cost of £1/7/6 and it has his age at 53!
We do have the marriage to Rebecca Cresswell. There are two more daughters than shown on bcc, one still living, when I get full names and birthdates I will ask Mumbles to update.

A person should have an opinion on everything, It becomes tact whether you reveal that opinion or not.

Thanks all,
Regarding Jimmy's question, Dinah W. (born 1914) Florence (born 1920) & Winnifred ( born 1929) are definitely sisters, in fact Winnie is still alive. When we see her we will ask if she is aware of Ada & James and if they are related. Florence always says her mother (Rebecca Cresswell) had more children than the three sisters who survived but never mentioned any names,it is unlikely however Winnie will know as she is younger, but we will ask. Unfortunately we do not have John Ashman&Rebecca Cresswell's marriage certificate but with the information supplied by Peterd will will obtain a copy.
Thanks again
