Re: Help needed
I think I would say it says married but the enumerator was getting tired and not writing as neatly as he was earlier. Is there a reason why you think it does not say married?

Re: Help needed
Further up the page is a Married and it looks quite different.
Out of site, further up the page is another married identical to the one Ive just mentioned.
The first letter looks more like W and the last letter is finished differently to the d in married

Looks like married to me also.
Saying that, the first thing I saw (well at least thought I did) was "Lucifer" in the person above Thomas.

Re: Help needed
Definitely says Married, but don't loose sight of the fact that the Enumerators were offered alcohol by nearly every household they visited, they were often very drunk by the end of their day

Re: Help needed
Except for my wife's puritan relatives in Norfolk and Suffolk.
They had a reputation for lecturing on the evils of drink when visiting households as Enumerators.
Thye made a fortune when they emigrated to Australia and made ginger beer and other non alchoholic drinks for the gold miners.
Guess what they purchased with the profits?
That right, a string of Hotels and Pubs
