Hi, can anyone find the birth and marriage of the following please.

I have a Mary Hadgetts living with William Siviter, they never married. They had at least one child together, she also was called Mary Hodgetts. I assume that she was given her mothers name as she was a single woman although I think a widow.

Willaim's first wife was Sarah Hacket they had several children before she died in 1832. Some time after this Mary Hodgetts and her children moved in with him. This is the marriage of William to his first wife. marriage WILLIAM SIVITER Spouse: SARAH HACKETT Marriage: 15 SEP 1823 Halesowen, Worcester, England. This is what I think is her birth SARAH HACKETT Christening: 16 MAR 1806 Halesowen, Worcester, England Father: JAMES HACKETT Mother: CATHARINE. Her death SARAH SIVETER Date of burial: 17 Aug 1832 Age at death: 27. I have gathered this information from the LDS site, so I am not sure how accurate it is.

What I would like is to find the Marriage of his Partner Mary Hodgetts, She had at least 2 children with him, as they are in the 1841 census. Phebe Hodgets abt 1828 Staffordshire, England Rowley Regis Staffordshire Nailer. Martha Hodgets abt 1832 Staffordshire, England Rowley Regis Staffordshire Nailer. ( Her daughter to William Siviter, Mary Hodgets abt 1840 Staffordshire, England Rowley Regis Staffordshire). Also I would like to find his death year, this might help establish when Mary moved in with William. If I find the marriage it might make finding her birth a bit easier.

At the minute I have found this which may be her birth, but it needs confirmed. MARY HODGETTS Christening: 20 APR 1806 Halesowen, Worcester, England Parents: Father: TIMOTHY HODGETTS Mother: MARY.

Also I need to establish the correct birth for her daughter Mary Hodgetts 1840c, there are a few on BMD, I would order the cert if I new which one, if any, was hers. I expect the only confirmation would be to find the parish record. In 1856 her first marriage to James Dainty she gave her age as 19, living at Rounds Green, West Bromwich. If she was born 1840, as stated in 1841 census, she would have been only 16. she was married in the parish church oldbury west bromwich. This might be a lead on finding her birth, well at least it is worth noteing.

Any other information you might need to ask please let me know.

Where are they living on the 1841 census?
is it Rowley Regis?

You could send off to Sandwell regis office and say you only want the certif if it has mothers name Mary. They normally do a sweep 2 yrs either side of a given year.
It depends where they lived and regis the kids as Dudley covers one area and Sandwell another part of rowley regis.
But they are both very very friendly offices and an email to them might help.

What age did she put on her 2nd marriage?

I think is is likely to be a Dudley one (regis at sandwell) if they lived RRegis- but tell them you want a sweep 2 yrs either side of 1839 and only if ma is a Mary

Hi, Mary Hodgetts gave her age as 19 when she married in 1856. This would make her birth 1837. But in 1841 census she is age abt one. So you would think that her parents would have known if she was a baby or a 4 year old. Its all very unclear. I have also tried BMD and there are a few to think about. It may be a good idea to contact the Samdwell reg office, they might find her. Thanks for your time and help

hi, sorry forgot to add the place she was in 1841 this is the record. She is living with mother mary who gives her name as Siviter and her father William Siviter (They never married) and in other census her mother is named as Mary Hodgetts, a lodger.

I would think that if Mary jnr was 1 in 1841 and 11 in 1851 then 1840 is quite reliable for her birth year. Marriage certificates are never very reliable.

I wondered if it would help to look for Martha Hodgetts? These entries all seem to fit OK....

It is the same in Joseph Walker in 81,71 and 61 I think. Don't know why his wife is down as Sarah in 1861. I can't see any marriage to a Sarah. The ages are all awash, including Joseph's, so little help there.
I think it would be well worth getting a lookup for that marriage in 1852 at St Edmunds. See if a) it is the right Martha Hodgetts and b) is there any father down. There is another Martha Hodgetts in the 1841 census living in Dudley aged 10 so hard to know anything without the look up.

Hi, thanks for the lookup, what I have found is the birth of the son of Joseph and Martha.

I wonder if I order the marriage cert, would it have Martha's real fathers name on it. Her sister Mary, said in her first marriage William Hodgetts, in her second William Siviter. and I believe they were only half sisters. both had different fathers.

I have also found these 2 children I think are siblings of Mary. They would have been born to mary's mother's first marriage. If I am on the right track I need to find the marriage of Mary to John Hodgetts. the only niggle is that Martha was born Rowley Regis, Stafford, and the 2 boys Dudley Worcester.

You have the right family in 1861, and it looks very like you have the Walker line in 1871/81. Martha being a sevent in 1851 would be most likely as well. I was never to sure about the Walkers in 1861, as they are all said to be lodgers, and no relation attached, so many thanks for that information. I am going to do a search now for the marriage of John Hodgetts to Mary, I might hit lucky. I am not so sure how I am going to find the death of John (thats if I have it right) I think he may of died before civil reg started, his last child was born 1832.
I will post anything I find and let you know how I get on.

Hi Kathy, RR came under Dudley Registration District, an awful lot of RR Baps and Marriages were at Dudley Worcs, it is only up the road. HTH from linell.

Hi, if John Hodgetts was still around in 1841, his wife was living with William Siviter and at least 2 of her children in 1841? Did she just up and leave him I wonder? and who is Jane. If the following are all her children, she must have still been with him in 1839. I think she had Mary, Williams Siviter's daughter in 1840c. Can anyone work this one out, cos it has me stumped.

Sorry, didn't mean to confuse you
I thought you were suggesting that the those Thomas (1828) and James (1832) entries at Dudley were for siblings to your Mary ? ie Mary's parents might be John and Mary Ann.
I don't think that is likely if Mary had sisters Pheobe b 1828 and Martha b 1832 (birthyears from 1841 census) It would not make sense to be baptising two boys at Dudley if girls were born same years at Rowley Regis.
So, I think James and Thomas are actually in this crowd of baptisms at Dudley and I think they fit (apart from the mother's name) with the 1841 census entry below.
