her married census's lists her being born in west bromwich :shock:

so this is who i think it is
1881 census
west bromwich 25 guns lane
thomas yates 40 head mar. 40 puddler
mary ann yates 39
william h. yates 1
thomas 13
mary ann 16
john 4
christanna 8
It must come to a fight . Only make the right wing strong

add it, i cant find another thomas yates with a daughter mary ann in west bromwich on the 1881 census
